Hämmerle Kaffee through the ages

What started as a one-man business in a garage in 1972, is now a modern company with more than 80 employees on 4300 m² enter­prise area. “My plan was to finance the family upkeep and build a home by owning a couple of vending machines that I could take care of myself”, recalls Dieter Hämmerle, founder of Hämmerle Kaffee. Today, the “Hämmerle team” is in charge of over 4,000 vending machines in Vorarlberg.

And so the story of success that started in a garage takes its course in the global market …


The Dieter Hämmerle limited partnership was founded by Dieter and Brigitte Hämmerle in a rental property in Thüringen. Primary task was to set up vending machines. One year later, the move into the newly constructed home took place. With mixing and filling of instant beverages an additonal sector was created.


Hämmerle presents itself at the exhibition in Dornbirn and shows its large assortment.


As first company Hämmerle imports coffee whitener to Austria. Back then mostly whole milk powder was used, which showed essential disad­van­tages compared to coffee whitener, and so the new product of Hämmerle faced brisk interest.


Relocation to the company building in Thüringen with 900 m2 work and storage space. The production sector of instant products was constantly expanded. In addition, many new projects were started due to most modern vending machines and innovative paying systems.

Construction of the new, modern company building with 2,300 m² in Bludesch-Gais. Increase of staff to 30 employees.


Expansion of the company area by purchase of the adjacent building Nährmittel-Werke Engel.


Expansion by constructing an annex on the east side of the company building.


Rebuild and moder­niz­ation of production plant, automa­tiz­ation of second production line, purchase of a robot system for palle­tizing.



After 38 years, company founder Dieter Hämmerle (master of enjoyment) retires.


Completion of the annex building with more than 3,200 m². Besides the enlar­gement of the company building with the new warehouse and logistics building, new offices and a laboratory for product develo­pment and quality control were constructed. Additio­nally, the annex includes changing rooms and a hygienic area for employees, as well as a dedicated area for external forwarder staff. The whole annex building was constructed by regional companies.
